Homes to be featured in STEP Into Christmas, a home tour fundraiser for Solutions That Empower People (STEP), have been announced and include six historic homes in the Claiborne Avenue neighborhood of Rocky Mount. the event will be Dec. 7 from 1 to 5 p.m.
Included in the tour are two homes — built in the late 1800s — both of which have been renovated to become bed and breakfasts with a guest house. Also on the tour is a home that once served as a well-known medical center and an all-metal Lustron home.
“Ticket holders will have a one-of-a-kind opportunity to see firsthand the inside of some of Rocky Mount’s most distinctive historic homes,” said Marc Crouse, STEP executive director. “People who take the tour will be able to see parts of homes not often open to the general public. They will hear about their history and stories about the families who have lived there. It’s going to be a very fun afternoon.”
Last year’s inaugural Christmas home tour sold more than 500 tickets, said Kris Landrum, STEP’s marketing and communications director. The event raised $17,000 toward funding STEP’s support programs, including Early Head Start, Meals on Wheels, transportation, housing and weatherization and financial services.
“We were delighted with the turnout and the support we received from the community,” Landrum said.
